Week 9 Power Rankings!

Not much in the way of surprises this week – the teams that were supposed to win, won. Sure, you could call the Stars win an upset, but they went up against a team at half strength and they now have won three in a row. A bit surprising, perhaps, but not entirely unanticipated. Also: trade deadline THIS FRIDAY!

Only a glimmer of hope remains
12. Doctor Dilaudid

Record: 2-7; Last Week: 12

Will they break into triple digits at any point this year? At this point, the Doctor needs a lot of help to do anything other than play the spoiler and wait for next year.

11. Bad Bad Victorcat

Record: 2-7; Last Week: 10

Things just keep getting worse in Bad Bad land. They’ve scored a solid number of points over the year, but the matchups just haven’t broken their way. Now there is one month left to try to turn things around…three wins are probably the minimum to feel confident about their chances.

10. Cupcakes of DOOM!

Record: 3-6; Last Week: 9

Another bad defeat leaves the Cupcakes’ playoffs hopes damaged, though not erased – they are part of a three-way tie for the eighth and final position, but are well behind the leader on points. Two wins with some help will get them in, and their schedule is the most favorable of the three.

9. ★

Record: 3-6; Last Week: 11

Just like that, the Stars have the third longest active winning streak, sit tied for the eighth playoff seed, and are only 20 points behind the next highest spot. There is talent on this roster – more active management might give them a real shot at shocking a few people.

In solid shape, but work to do
8. The Schmuckernators

Record: 3-6; Last Week: 8

The Schmuckernators lost this week, but it wasn’t too surprising. Now they face a crucial matchup next week against the Cupcakes in probably the most meaningful game of the season so far. The winner has the inside track to the postseason dance, and if the Schmucks can pull it off, one more win could be enough to get them in.

7. Z Power

Record: 4-5; Last Week: 7

The Z’s took a gamble this week – allowing the newly upgraded running game to go on bye at the same time, likely guaranteeing a loss in hopes of wins later on. The problem? Future opponents will almost certainly provide a stiffer test, and for a team on the bubble of the playoffs, that’s not a good sign. Still, it looks like one more win would ensure a spot in the postseason.

6. Minions

Record: 5-4; Last Week: 6

The Minions performed decently, but the loss of Gates to injury really hurt them this week as he has been one of the two rocks carrying this team. Currently, they sit right at the dividing line – probably don’t need to win any more games to make it to the playoffs, but they wouldn’t want to tempt fate by ending the year on a six-game losing streak.

5. Left Hand Strangers

Record: 6-3; Last Week: 5

The Strangers have done exactly what they needed to, feasting on an easy schedule en route to a four-game winning streak. Now, they get to measure themselves against three elite opponents in a row. This is a great opportunity to propel themselves into a top-three position with a couple of wins.

Jockeying for pole position
4. A Sheep at the Wheel

Record: 6-3; Last Week: 3

Back on track. Since all the other top teams won, however, the Sheep were unable to make up any ground and will need to keep taking care of business to have a shot at that top three seed.

3. The Hot Showers

Record: 7-2; Last Week: 3

Explosive win was the Showers’ high score of the year, but was only good enough for second best on the week. Next week’s matchup pitting the first and last place teams in the standings looks to be quite the mismatch, but stranger things have happened in the world of Fantasy.

2. Cool Runnings

Record: 7-2; Last Week: 2

The Runnings continue to set the pace along with the Showers and Cats as the teams who are separating themselves from the field. They’ve got a challenging end of the season schedule, however, with highly anticipated – and possible playoff preview – matchups against the Strangers next week, the Showers in two weeks and the Cats to end the year. Can’t wait!

1. Fat Cats

Record: 6-3; Last Week: 1

Six in a row, and what’s new? They could (should?) easily stretch it to nine before the season ending showdown/rematch with the Runnings. The Cats dominance is kind of scary right now, with four performances over 130 already. Put in perspective: 130 has only been reached two other times this year by all eleven other teams. Yikes.
