Week 7 Power Rankings!

Wait, let’s get this straight: the largest margin of victory was by the last place team over the top ranked team? And all three teams that were tied for first lost, thereby putting seven teams within one game of first? Call it the Week of the Great Contraction, with parity was on full display.

Crab Walk
12. ★

Record: 1-6; Last Week: 12

Congrats to the Stars for One Shining Moment. Actually, if they can get half of that performance from McFadden each week, they’ll be competitive the rest of the way. A season on the brink is saved, at least for one week.

11. Doctor Dilaudid

Record: 2-5; Last Week: 11

Glimmers of hope amidst a disastrous season. Several cogs on this team had good weeks, though it wasn’t enough to pull off the upset. They look capable of putting it all together one of these weeks – will it be soon enough?

10. Cupcakes of DOOM!

Record: 2-5; Last Week: 10

After a few weeks of what seemed to be progress, the Cupcakes took a big step back this week. It looks more and more like this season is D-O-O-O-O-MED.

9. Bad Bad Victorcat

Record: 2-5; Last Week: 7

Got the second highest score of the week, and still lost. It’s been that kind of year. Still, it has to be encouraging to have two solid weeks in a row – if they can sneak into the playoffs (likely), they’ll be a mighty dangerous opponent.

One-Foot Hop
8. Z Power

Record: 4-3; Last Week: 9

Pulled off their best effort of the year, despite a receiver and kicker putting up zeros. Somehow, this team sits above .500 even though they’ve been outscored by 30 points over the season. For that, they deserve to move up in the world, at least for a week.

7. The Schmuckernators

Record: 3-4; Last Week: 8

Strong victory to keep pace with the rest of the field. This upcoming week is a great chance to keep the momentum going with a date versus the Stars – though with the Schmucks, it’s always hard to tell which team will show up.

6. Left Hand Strangers

Record: 4-3; Last Week: 6

Quietly won their second in a row with a great chance to make it three. The Strangers continue to lurk in the shadows just outside of the top tier of teams (actually kinda creepy), and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them sneak their way up in the next few weeks. The end of the year schedule is downright brutal, however, making success right now vital.

5. Minions

Record: 5-2; Last Week: 5

The Minions pad the resume with a good win over a weak opponent – a few key components carried the team, as has been the case all year. That bench, though…yikes. There’s no depth, which does not bode well for the second half of the year.

Skipping to their Lou
4. The Hot Showers

Record: 5-2; Last Week: 3

A mediocre performance by their standards wasn’t enough to prevent the Showers from losing their second straight. On the bright side, the ‘B’ team performed surprisingly well, with four normal starters on bye and a fifth out with injury.

3. A Sheep at the Wheel

Record: 5-2; Last Week: 1

Bad loss for a good team that just doesn’t seem to have the extra gear right now to become truly great. Was it a classic ‘trap’ game, after picking off two undefeateds while looking ahead to the red-hot Fat Cats? Thus far this year, the Sheep have performed their best against stiff competition – can they rebound to do it again next week?

2. Cool Runnings

Record: 5-2; Last Week: 2

Last week, the Runnings held off the Schmucks in a close one – however, two weeks in a row was too much to ask as the Z’s pulled out this week’s thriller. A battle with the Minions for first place – or at least a share of it – now awaits the Cool ones.

1. Fat Cats

Record: 4-3; Last Week: 4

While they sit a game back in the standings, it’s pretty clear which team is most dangerous right now. The swarthy felines are finally up to speed and with their inertia, well, look out. This week was an absolute masterpiece of balance, giving them the victory with the league’s highest score despite leaving a 40 – yes, 40! – point receiver on the bench.
