Week 5 Power Rankings!
Another fascinating week of games: half of the matchups were settled by less than six points, including a Monday night thriller that came down to the final drive. You only get that kind of excitement when teams are really desperate to avoid the basement status.
Mayday!
12. ★
Record: 0-5; Last Week: 12
Oh so close to their first win of the year, only to watch Favre toss the victory right away. At least they played with a nearly full lineup this week, and set their new high score. Right? Sigh…
11. Z Power
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 8
Well, that was a lot uglier that a 300zx, that’s for sure. Maybe a blind squirrel got behind the wheel and drove it off a cliff. At any rate, it looks like something needs to be done to shake this team up to find a winning combination.
10. Cupcakes of DOOM!
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 11
Almost unbelievably, the Cupcakes find themselves tied for fifth place despite needing a miracle finish to beat the Stars as they salvaged their pride. Maybe they can carry the momentum from this win into the future; is there such a thing as momentum in fantasy sports?
9. Bad Bad Victorcat
Record: 1-4; Last Week: 9
The Victorcat suffer a heartbreaker but at least they bounced back strongly from last week’s disaster. There’s too much potential on this team for it to be sitting in 11th place in the standings five weeks into the season.
What Way?
8. Doctor Dilaudid
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 10
The Dilaudid did beat the Schmuckernators last week, but let’s be honest; there’s precious little else to suggest they are a better team right now. Not sure what the prescription is, but these guys need to find their Dr. Galea fast if they want to have a chance.
7. The Schmuckernators
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 6
Just when things were starting to look up, the ‘Nators go and lay a huge egg in an easily winnable game. Now they need to find an upset somewhere in their brutal schedule over next month, or they just might find themselves scratching and clawing for a playoff spot come the last few weeks of the season.
6. Left Hand Strangers
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 5
Another tough loss for a team that has been in more than its share of tight games. The Strangers find themselves with another difficult matchup again next week – or a golden opportunity to turn the season around, depending on your level of optimism.
5. Fat Cats
Record: 2-3; Last Week: 7
In the muddled mess of 6 teams tied for fifth place at 2-3, the Cats are the clear standout. This time, they were on the right end of a matchup between the week’s two highest scoring teams. Deep, dangerous, and looking primed for a shot at bridging the two game gap between the top four and bottom eight over the next month.
Say Hey!
4. Cool Runnings
Record: 4-1; Last Week: 2
The Runnings rallied hard, but came up a bit short and lost their unblemished record in a thriller. In hindsight, going with the Rams defense certainly looks like a questionable play…luckily for the Runnings, that only has to be a one-time deal with Pittsburgh sitting this one out.
3. A Sheep at the Wheel
Record: 4-1; Last Week: 4
Great win while facing a difficult bye week against a difficult opponent. All this, despite getting next to nothing from three receivers. While they have to deal with some immediate injury concerns to good QBs, the long term prognosis continues to be solid.
2. Minions
Record: 4-1; Last Week: 3
The Minions keep on rolling and enter yet another week in uncharted territory. Lucky? Well, a bit – no one has had fewer points scored against them. But not all their opponents have been cupcakes (cap.? - ed.), and they’ve put up solid numbers as well.
1. The Hot Showers
Record: 5-0; Last Week: 1
The Showers cut it close again this week, but managed to come away with another win. Now they’ve got a tough rivalry game against the always talented Sheep with first place in the standings (or at least a tie for first) on the line.
Mayday!
