Week 2 Power Rankings!
What an exciting week of fantasy football! Just one week after a bunch of yawners, we had some great pairings as nearly every game went down to the wire. Not that all wires were equal; the festering eyesore that was the Doctor-Cupcakes game was no match for the Thanksgiving feast points-fest that was the Runnings-Cats. Is it too much to ask for great matchups like this every week?
Scraping the bottom
12. ★
Record: 0-2; Last Week: 11
When the better of the two QBs on the roster posts negative 0.5 points, you’re likely in for a long week. Filling a roster spot with a player on injured reserve doesn’t help, either. A few positive signs are there, but boy does the future look bleak for these guys.
11. Bad Bad Victorcat
Record: 0-2; Last Week: 10
Just an awful week, with hardly anyone performing up to projections. Still, this is an intriguing team to watch with a lot of potentially explosive players; can they turn it around before it’s too late?
10. Cupcakes of DOOM!
Record: 1-1; Last Week: 12
Managed a win, no matter how ugly it was. For that, they deserve a (potentially temporary) respite from basement status. Now they have a chance to prove their mettle with two tough matchups in the next two weeks.
9. The Schmuckernators
Record: 0-2; Last Week: 9
Improved markedly on last week’s abomination, but the end result was the same – a loss. The 0-2 start is rough, but it’s not impossible to overcome, especially with performances like this.
Middle of the barrel
8. Z Power
Record: 1-1; Last Week: 5
A second mediocre effort in a row brings worries to a head for the Z. Why are there so many badly underperforming on this roster? Still, it’s way too early to write this team off.
7. Minions
Record: 2-0; Last Week: 8
Circle me surprised! The Minions are undefeated two weeks into the season! The effort wasn’t nearly as balanced as last week, but a win is a win, and the Minions are two games ahead of several expected playoff contenders. A win next week over the Sheep, and they’ll rocket up these power rankings.
6. Doctor Dilaudid
Record: 1-1; Last Week: 4
A nightmare week for a team whose future looked a lot brighter last week. They’ll need to get back on track in a hurry to remain relevant in the league race.
5. Fat Cats
Record: 0-2; Last Week: 7
Despite being the beneficiaries of this week’s remarkable individual effort, the Cats lost another heartbreaker. Still, this team looks too good to penalize them much. Once they shake last year’s championship hangover, they should be right back in the mix for another one.
Floating to the top!
4. Left Hand Strangers
Record: 1-1; Last Week: 3
Another great effort, and this time they were rewarded with the victory. The schedule appears to lighten quite a bit over the next month and a half, so the Strangers have a great opportunity to make their move up the standings.
3. Cool Runnings
Record: 2-0; Last Week: 6
This week’s overall winner showcased tremendous balance to overcome a serious challenge. While it’s not normally standard policy to drop a team that wins, the Runnings were so spectacular they had to make the leap over the one-loss Strangers. Even though it’s early in the season, weeks like this one show that these guys are the real deal.
2. The Hot Showers
Record: 2-0; Last Week: 2
A second sturdy effort from a team that looks to have most of the pieces in place to challenge all season long. Somewhat surprisingly, they are the only team to break into triple digits in both games this year, though several others have come close.
1. A Sheep at the Wheel
Record: 2-0; Last Week: 1
It was a good, though not outstanding week, for the Sheep in pole position. Certainly not a reason to drop them from this spot, though the gap has certainly closed between them and the rest of the top contenders in the league.
