Week 3 Power Rankings!

The story this week? Blowouts. Lots of blowouts. Not that they all were anticipated, mind you. Who would have expected the top ranked Sheep to get crushed by the upstart Minions? Or the previously toothless Victorcats absolutely decimating the Docs? Goes to show that this season will have a few more surprises in it by the time we reach the end – especially now that the bye weeks are starting. Owners be aware!

Yikes!
12. ★

Record: 0-3; Last Week: 12

McFadden has been a nice surprise. Got to look for the bright spots where you can find them. It’s been a miserable season so far.

11. Cupcakes of DOOM!

Record: 1-2; Last Week: 10

After last week’s upset win, the Cupcakes revert back to their namesake ways. With an average in the low 70s each week, they’ll need a lot of help to steal victories where they can find them.

10. Z Power

Record: 1-2; Last Week: 8
That was not good. Right now these guys are a one Manning show. Do they need a roster shake-up to make a move, or will their studs recover and start living up to the hype?

9. Doctor Dilaudid

Record: 1-2; Last Week: 6

A remarkably strong performance by Collie and a rebound showing from Flacco went wasted this week. It’s never a good thing when the next highest position player scores less than 6.5 points.

Sikes!
8. Fat Cats

Record: 0-3; Last Week: 5

Much like the Schmuckernators last year, the Fat Cats are this year’s unlucky winners of the brutal early schedule. Despite outscoring all but 3 teams over the first 3 weeks, the Cats sit winless for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Next week brings some relief with the other 0-3 team visiting – lose that one, though, and the hammer comes down.

7. The Schmuckernators

Record: 1-2; Last Week: 9

The Schmucks finally break through with a strong effort and ring up their first ‘W’ of the new year. These slow starts are really unfortunate, and the upcoming opponents look daunting: currently, a combined 10-2 record including three undefeateds.

6. Bad Bad Victorcat

Record: 1-2; Last Week: 11

Answer to last week’s question: yes. Yes, they can turn it around, posting a shockingly good performance that was one weak link shy of the season’s best mark. Is this too high of a jump for a previously lifeless team? We’ll have a better idea if they are a one-week wonder after next week’s all-in-the-family rivalry game.

5. Left Hand Strangers

Record: 2-1; Last Week: 4

The Strangers won, but for the first time this year, they looked vulnerable. The bench posted some big numbers so it’s probably not too much of a cause for concern, but the Strangers are pretty lucky to have played the only team to score worse than them this week.

Likes!
4. A Sheep at the Wheel

Record: 2-1; Last Week: 1

The Sheep finally went down, but at least the loss was honorable due to being beaten by a stronger opponent rather than some ignoble 70 point showing. Can they rebound next week, without getting caught looking ahead to a pair of showdowns with the new class of the league?

3. Minions

Record: 3-0; Last Week: 7

We believe! The feel-good team of the year continues their remarkable run by taking down the always strong Sheep – in fact, it was their first victory over them in more than two years. They even survived a goose egg from the WR2 spot, which – not to dampen the enthusiasm too much – points to their one real weakness: the top of the lineup looks great, but the bench is mighty thin.

2. The Hot Showers

Record: 3-0; Last Week: 2

If this were a college football poll, the Showers would move into 1st by virtue of being the highest ranked team not to lose. But we do the right thing here; we reward based on results rather than reputation (at least this week; I think I just completely contradicted a statement I made two weeks ago). While the Showers have consistently impressive, the Runnings have been more so, especially last week and this, and therefore they leapfrog a spot to steal the bulls-eye.

1. Cool Runnings

Record: 3-0; Last Week: 3

Over the last two weeks, the Runnings have finished first and second in points scored, and both times they left significant points on the bench. These guys are deep, clicking on almost all cylinders, and have done their part to put a temperature block at the top of the standings!
