Week 8 Power Rankings!

Eight games in, which is only the halfway point in for 2/3 of the league. As for those on the outside looking in? Don’t lose hope just yet – even the worst teams only need to make up 2 games to grab the final playoff spot. The trade deadline is only 10 days away, so we’re nearing the end of a line for a serious roster makeover; be bold! It pays off, occasionally.

County Treasurer Aspirers
12. Doctor Dilaudid

Record: 2-6; Last Week: 11

Another bad week, and it’s clear that the Dr. is flat-lining. Between injuries, bye weeks, and terrible showings from the supposed studs, not much has gone right this year. With 3 of their final 5 games against the class of the league, it looks like they are only playing the spoiler role now.

11. ★

Record: 2-6; Last Week: 12

How about that? The Stars pull off a second straight victory and don’t look half bad at it. They’ve still got a ton of ground to make up, but at least they’re moving in the right direction. Three in a row next week against a team with its starting two RB’s on bye?

10. Bad Bad Victorcat

Record: 2-6; Last Week: 9

Are the other ‘Cats really the 3rd worst team in the league? They may not wind up here when all is said and done, but this year has certainly been a trying one. One week in, the big gamble to trade their top RB and 2nd best WR for a star QB did not pay off.

9. Cupcakes of DOOM!

Record: 3-5; Last Week: 10

Just when we thought it might be safe to pull the plug on their season, the ‘Cakes cook up their best effort of the season and win handily. They are still on the outside looking in, but their toughest remaining game on paper is next week against the floundering Sheep…could they surge late and sneak into the playoffs?

Congressional Hopefuls
8. The Schmuckernators

Record: 3-5; Last Week: 7

The Schmucks win this week’s worst-performance-after-looking-decent-for-a-few-weeks award. The debacle leaves them precariously hanging on to the eighth and final playoff slot. Now they have to try to bounce back against the rolling Fats.

7. Z Power

Record: 4-4; Last Week: 8

The Z’s trotted out a couple of shiny new toys this week, but the end result was much the same as before – solid, but not quite enough to join the top tier of contenders. Still, they have to feel good about their chances going forward, especially if they can successfully navigate next week’s RB-crippling byes.

6. Minions

Record: 5-3; Last Week: 5

The Minions keep up their mid-season pattern of win one, lose one, with a moderately close loss. Making the defeat worse, they managed to leave the defensive position open on a week when there were several available defenses which would have overcome the gap. Hopefully for them, this week won’t prove to be a tipping point for the rest of the year.

5. Left Hand Strangers

Record: 5-3; Last Week: 6

The Strangers finally break out with a great performance. That’s the sort of showing from the WRs that could really carry this team far. While the poor RB and shaky QB performances are significant long-term concerns that may ultimately limit the LHer’s upside, they have to feel good about taking care of business while stringing together three straight wins, 2nd best in the league right now.

Presidential Candidates
4. A Sheep at the Wheel

Record: 5-3; Last Week: 3

Two rough weeks in a row after a strong start has to be setting off alarms. The RBs were the only bright spot in this duckling-ugly game. Is next week’s sweet matchup with the Cupcakes the recipe to cure what ails them?

3. The Hot Showers

Record: 6-2; Last Week: 4

The Showers snapped a two game losing streak in dramatic fashion, on Monday night in the 4th quarter. In doing so, they’ve managed to maintain a tenuous hold on the number one position in the standings; if both teams continue to win out, their matchup in three weeks with the Runnings could decide the number one seed.

2. Cool Runnings

Record: 6-2; Last Week: 2

A more than adequate victory for a team missing a sizable contingent of players. The Runnings have been running like a well-oiled machine this season and are set up well for a top-three seed come the postseason.

1. Fat Cats

Record: 5-3; Last Week: 1

No kicker? No problem. The Cats keep rolling with a win that wasn’t as close as the score indicates, considering they lost a receiver to injury in the first quarter. Their five game winning streak matches the longest of the season, and the schedule sets up nicely down the stretch as they scratch and claw their way toward a potential number one seed.
