URK: Week 12

Week 12 Power Rankings
Although the results were mostly chalk in the end, this past week was one of the most exciting weeks we’ve had recently. We had teams fighting to stay alive for the playoffs or solidify a good position, a number of close games, and, oh yeah, one of the most shocking upsets of the year. Surprisingly, all the playoff teams have also been determined – five wins isn’t enough to make it this year, although we might have several sub .500 teams.
12. Minions
Record: 2-10; Last week’s ranking: 12
Almost pulled off a miraculous comeback, but fell just short. They get one more crack at taking down one of the contenders next week; will they come through?
11. Cactus!! WATCH OUT!!
Record: 4-8; Last week’s ranking: 11
Another week, another beatdown. The end of the season has been brutal to these guys. Just like the Minions, they get one more chance to alter the playoff seedings.
10. Baby Daddy Buller
Record: 4-8; Last week’s ranking: 10
It was a great matchup, their best chance to keep themselves in the playoff race, but the Bullers fell apart with their worst game of the season. And when I say fell apart, I mean that quite literally – injuries finished off their slim hopes.
9. Clay Davis All-Stars
Record: 4-8; Last week’s ranking: 9
Came charging back, but came up just short in a thriller of a game. There will be no miraculous run this year, so the Blitzers can rest easy.
8. Blinder Squirrels
Record: 6-6; Last week’s ranking: 8
It wasn’t pretty, but the Squirrels did what was necessary to get the win and get in. A win next week gives them a winning season and likely a decent seed for the tourney.
7. Granite Daisies
Record: 6-6; Last week’s ranking: 7
The Daisies were flailing in the wrong direction, on the verge of falling out of the playoffs, when this tremendous performance came out of nowhere. They’ve got work to do if they want to avoid a rematch in two weeks, but for now, a sigh of relief.
6. The Schmuckernators
Record: 6-6; Last week’s ranking: 6
Another monster effort from what is now officially the hottest team in the league. Before their Titan-like rebirth five weeks ago, they looked dead in the water; now they could move as high as the fourth seed.
5. Cool Runnings
Record: 6-6; Last week’s ranking: 3
The Runnings suffer a couple of losses in a row after a strong charge over the middle of the season. Now they are in danger of falling a lot further in the seedings than looked possible two weeks ago.
4. Cupcakes of Doom!
Record: 7-5; Last week’s ranking: 5
The Cupcakes hang on in a too-close-for-comfort win. Now they just need to take care of business and have a little luck to sneak up to a higher seed.
3. Kenny Gee Willikers
Record: 8-4; Last week’s ranking: 4
The Wilikers right the ship with another performance that was just enough. One more win, and they will somehow manage to have pulled off a top three seed despite being among the lowest scoring teams in the league.
2. Fat Cats
Record: 8-4; Last week’s ranking: 2
Survived a scare and crucially, locked up a top three seed (barring an epic meltdown or Cupcake explosion next week). They’ve got a great tune up game next week which could very well serve as a preview of their first round matchup.
1. Ritzy Blitzers
Record: 11-1; Last week’s ranking: 1
Solid effort, but went down to a team with all the right matchups. While the disappointment of losing a perfect season hurts, they just need to regroup and hope this isn’t a sign of a Colt-like playoff collapse.
