Week 8 Power Rankings
Two months in, which means we’re halfway home for those who will make the playoffs. Right now, only four teams have winning records and can feel confident about their chances – the other eight have varying amounts of work to do. Oh yeah, and we introduce a new feature this week: charts! Now the progress of the team over the course of the season is visually apparent! Exciting!
12. Minions
Record: 2-6; Last week’s ranking: 11
The Minions get stomped back into the basement after slipping out for a week. They’re not completely out of it yet, but, as the lowest overall scoring team, they face a serious challenge.
11. The Schmuckernators
Record: 2-6; Last week’s ranking: 12
With their backs to the wall, the Schmucks pull out a huge win to remind us why they looked so good at the beginning of the year. For one week, at least, their outlook is much brighter.
10. Cactus!! WATCH OUT!!
Record: 3-5; Last week’s ranking: 8
We’ve had some pretty bad weeks in this league, but we’ve never had a team score below 40. That what happens when two key starters are on bye, a third is out with injury, and nobody scores more than 9 points. History is made!
9. Baby Daddy Buller
Record: 3-5; Last week’s ranking: 10
Wasn’t a good effort, but the win is huge to stay in contact with the other teams fighting for a top 8 position. Nice rebound for a team that started the year 0-3.
8. Clay Davis All-Stars
Record: 3-5; Last week’s ranking: 7
The Mr. Davis’s can’t sustain the momentum after their best week of the season. They just haven’t been able to get any kind of good consistency out of their mid-level players.
7. Blinder Squirrels
Record: 3-5; Last week’s ranking: 6
This week, the Squirrels struggled with a tough bye week and a matchup with a strong opponent, dampening the momentum after a couple of weeks where they appeared to find themselves.
6. Granite Daisies
Record: 4-4; Last week’s ranking: 9
Nice win to stay in the thick of the race and snap a three game losing streak. Since it appears the Daisies won’t win many tiebreakers on points, they need to keep collecting the victories to ensure a spot in the big dance.
5. Cool Runnings
Record: 4-4; Last week’s ranking: 3
After several games of great improvement, the Runnings took a step back this week. But next up is a natural rivalry game - the always exciting brother bowl!
4. Cupcakes of Doom!
Record: 5-3; Last week’s ranking: 5
Big win to give them some breathing room in the standings. Despite a stretch of three losses in four games, they are still in decent position to make a run for the top.
3. Fat Cats
Record: 5-3; Last week’s ranking: 2
Tough loss after a great run. This is one of the most unpredictable teams in the league, just as capable of putting up 70 pts as 120 pts.
2. Kenny Gee Willikers
Record: 6-2; Last week’s ranking: 4
Bounce back after a disheartening defeat with a nice effort to reclaim sole possession of second place. They have yet to demonstrate the firepower of other top contenders, but their consistency has them in a great position.
1. Ritzy Blitzers
Record: 8-0; Last week’s ranking: 1
Another strong, well-rounded effort from a team that has demonstrated sustained excellence throughout the season. They now have a two game lead plus the tiebreaker – effectively a three game lead with only five to play. It would take a huge collapse for them to not secure the top overall seed.
