URK: Week 13

12/08/09
Week 13 Power Rankings
We had a great slate of games in the final week of the regular season. Sorry to the four who didn’t make the playoff cut! One more round of rankings, and then look forward to the playoff preview coming on Thursday.

12. Minions

Record: 3-10; Last week’s ranking: 12
The Minions save their best for last, pulling off a shocking upset to end the season. They even had the high score of the week!

11. Baby Daddy Buller

Record: 4-9; Last week’s ranking: 10
With the implosion of their lineup the past few weeks, it’s probably a good thing the Buller aren’t going to the playoffs. They had a few nice moments early in the year, but not enough consistency to get things done over the long hall.

10. Clay Davis All-Stars

Record: 4-9; Last week’s ranking: 9
Last year’s champion goes out with a whimper and a disappointing end to the year. They just could never find their footing after a rough beginning this year.

9. Cactus!! WATCH OUT!!

Record: 5-8; Last week’s ranking: 11
The Cactus wake up in time to pull off a nice win and finish one slot outside the playoff contenders – although truthfully the talent gap between 8 and 9 is pretty large. Still, it’s an improvement on last year and gives them hope for finally turning things around and making the big dance next year.

8. Blinder Squirrels

Record: 6-7; Last week’s ranking: 8
The Squirrels lost this week, but still did enough to make it in and give themselves a shot. They’ve got a tough draw, but as we saw last year, even a team with a losing record in eighth place has a shot.

7. Granite Daisies

Record: 7-6; Last week’s ranking: 7
After pulling off the biggest upset of the season last week, the Daisies follow it up with another win to finish with a winning record and avoid having to pull off the feat twice in three weeks. They’ve still got a tough assignment ahead, but these last two weeks have shown that they belong.

6. Cool Runnings

Record: 7-6; Last week’s ranking: 5
Nice rebound after a couple weeks of backsliding. Their season sweep of the Squirrels kept them from having to go up against the Blitzers. Now they get a rematch with a team that’s had their number the past two seasons.

5. Cupcakes of Doom!

Record: 7-6; Last week’s ranking: 4
Shockingly unexpected loss drops the Cupcakes into a difficult first round matchup with the league’s hottest team. Since week 5, they’ve alternated winning and losing – good news for this week, but not good news for their championship aspirations.

4. The Schmuckernators

Record: 7-6; Last week’s ranking: 6
Complete a tremendous turnaround, the Schmucks reel off six straight wins after looking dead in the water and nab the fourth spot. Gaining homefield advantage in the opening round could be the thing which pushes them over the top.

3. Kenny Gee Willikers

Record: 8-5; Last week’s ranking: 3
The Wilikers stumble across the finish line but still manage to finish the regular season in third thanks to a gift from the Minions. It will be interesting to see if the lowest scoring team to make the playoffs can continue to do just enough to win.

2. Fat Cats

Record: 8-5; Last week’s ranking: 2
The Cats have a terrible showing on the eve of the playoffs, but had performed well enough prior that it didn’t matter. Still, it’s a sign of the inconsistency this team has dealt with throughout the year and will have to overcome in order to make a run to the top.

1. Ritzy Blitzers

Record: 12-1; Last week’s ranking: 1
The Blitzers rebound from last week’s heartbreaker to complete the best regular season in URK league history. If this was the old NASCAR system, it’d all be over now. But instead it all gets wiped away, and they have to find a way to continue their domination for three more weeks.

Ugh, my graph is about as boring as it gets.

Although I have to agree with you Jaron...if I were you (which I clearly am not) I wouldn't worry about boring graph. I will say that the Schmuckernators graph is probably the most impressive.
