URK 2011: Week 10 Power Rankings

This past week will probably go down as the most exciting one of the season – three games decided by three points or less on Monday night! The Sheep and SharkLions each saved their chances at making the playoffs, while the slip-up by the Z’s opened the door for the Cheeseburgers and the Records to make a run at the number one overall seed. Three regular weeks left, and so much can happen!

12. Minions (Chris)
W-L: 1-9
Last Week: 12
Average Ballot Position: 12.0

The Minions came oh-so-close to pulling off the shocker of the year, but ultimately were done in by the fact that two of their starters put up injury goose-eggs. And the only bench points were scored by the backup QB, because everyone else was injured or suspended. To think, that if Phil Dawson could only have converted that chip shot 22-yarder at the end of the game, this team would have won!

11. SayHi2YourMother4Me (Kenan)
W-L: 4-6
Last Week: 10
Average Ballot Position: 9.6

Brutal beatdown at the hands of a brother. Foster can only carry this team so far, as injuries have destroyed any semblance of depth on the roster. And as they are so far behind similar teams in the points race, the SayHi’s almost certainly need at least two of the next three to be in.

10. Jehovah's Jockstrap (Brett)
W-L: 4-6
Last Week: 8
Average Ballot Position: 9.2

God sure picked a bad time to go on a losing streak. Now the playoff hopes of the scratch-don’t-sniff ones are in serious jeopardy. Time for a miracle, ye of little faith?

9. The Dyin' SharkLions (Danny)
W-L: 4-6
Last Week: 11
Average Ballot Position: 9.0

On the other hand, the Dyin’ were resurrected (metaphorically-speaking) by a squeaker of a victory in their best performance since week 4. They still sit on the outside looking in, but are within striking distance of any of the bottom four playoff seeds – though they must go through three of the four teams directly ahead of them.

8. Stars (Dan)
W-L: 4-6
Last Week: 7
Average Ballot Position: 8.0

A valiant comeback that just fell short. So, while the bad news is the Stars’ losing streak is now extended to six games, the good news is they managed to show some signs of life. Stealing a win from the Z’s this week would be a huge, huge boost to their playoff hopes.

7. A Sheep at the Wheel (Jaron)
W-L: 4-6
Last Week: 9
Average Ballot Position: 7.8

The Sheep managed to hold their loss column in check and appear to be enjoying a nice late-season surge. While the W-L record doesn’t look so great, their 2nd-best in league point total gives them a bit of a firewall against the other similar teams. One more win is probably all it will take to make it in, barring an epic meltdown or two.

6. Obese Geese (Steve)
W-L: 5-5
Last Week: 5
Average Ballot Position: 6.4

The Geese just missed a golden opportunity to all but punch their playoff ticket, but there should be no need for panicking yet. If they lose the Minions this week, however? Break out the beta-blockers.

5. Cupcakes of DOOM! (Adam)
W-L: 5-5
Last Week: 6
Average Ballot Position: 5.2

Great upset to hand the Z’s only their second loss on the year for the suddenly streaking Cupcakes. Isn’t ironic to think of the Cupcakes streaking? I mean, I could never picture that image in my mind. No sir.

4. The Schmuckernators (Jason)
W-L: 6-4
Last Week: 4
Average Ballot Position: 4.8

To their credit, the Schmuckernators have been able to take advantage of the league’s easiest schedule to the tune of six wins and four losses. On the other hand, a .600 average against that kind of competition doesn’t exactly bode all that well for the future. Can they find another gear over the next few weeks?

3. Z Power (Andy G.)
W-L: 8-2
Last Week: 1
Average Ballot Position: 2.2 (1)

For the first time all pre- and regular season, the Z’s find themselves out of the number one slot. Though they still tentatively own the number one seed and have clinched a playoff berth, suddenly the future doesn’t seem so certain. So, how will they handle adversity? By updating their team slogan?

2. Bacon Cheeseburgers (Andy K.)
W-L: 8-2
Last Week: 2
Average Ballot Position: 2.0 (1)

The Cheeseburgers survived a way-too-close call against an awful opponent. One week slip up or bad sign of things to come? I’d probably lean toward the former, since they’ve looked pretty solid over the last month. Start the countdown for the throwdown with Rostrum the week after this, which will all but eliminate one or the other of those teams from top seed consideration.

1. Rostrum Records (Luke)
W-L: 7-3
Last Week: 3
Average Ballot Position: 1.8 (3)

And we’ve got a new leader! The surging Records looked unstoppable last week as a blowout rivalry win propelled them into the number one power rankings slot! They’re still a game back in the W-L column, but owning a solid lead in the tiebreaker gives them great hope at finishing the regular season on top – provided they win out, that is.

Granted it's by less than 1/2 of 1 point, I beat RR in week 1! A win is a win - I should be in 1st by a game and a half if RR are ahead of the Zs. This is bush league!
