Noticed this today...

Hey Goshenites, is this really such a big news story up there?

(BTW, the comments in this story are amazing; you really should attempt to read them all from the bottom up without stopping.)

Technically I think you should read the comments bottom to top (chronological orders) :)

I find the "If you don't do X, then you don't deserve freedom" argument fascinating...

It actually really irks me a bit that this is an issue to so many people. It's along the lines of the flag lapel pin fiasco... it's really nothing more than shallow patriotism. People think that if they sing the national anthem and get upset when other people that don't, they're somehow more patriotic than the other people...

Yes, Danny this was a huge story here at GC. My position at Goshen puts me in the front lines to hear much of the fall out from this. My guess is that I won't hear too much about it from individuals right now but as some time goes by I'll start to hear things here and there. Others at Goshen including a number of people in my own office, Admissions Office, and the President's office will continue to hear about this for the next little while.
Jaron, I totally agree with you. I really appreciate the view point that I've heard that basically says, "I fought for this country so that others would have the freedom not to play the national anthem". I like how many people, although they have opposing view points, are able to find common ground and still support GC.
And quite frankly Goshen isn't trying to draw in people who are completely hostile towards us. I do feel that it will bring us positive coverage from people who are sympathetic to what we stand for.
