Playoff Mini-Preview

It’s been an interesting regular season, but now it’s all up for grabs! And that’s really the case this season; the best teams haven’t been nearly as dominant this year as in the past. In fact, this year’s regular season points champ had fewer points than any other RSPC in league history – the previous low was by a hardly dominant 7-6 Schmuckernators team way back in 2009. So, does that mean this is the year where a low seed catches fire and sweeps to the playoff championship? The last time a seed lower than 3 won was way back in 2008, so the odds don’t seem too good, but maybe?

Four Up:
Chalice and Cool Runnings are locked in as 1a and 1b; which one is which is just a matter of choice. Chalice really took it on the chin last week from the Runnings, who also swiped the regular season points title in the last week of the season. On the other hand, Chalice is still the number one seed and appear to have the easier road to the championship. Perhaps a quarter-step behind the top two is Quality, who have basically matched both of them step for step over the second half of the season. Rounding out the top four seeds are the Geese, whose win last week gave them the right to wear the home jerseys in the rematch this week.

Four Down:
TBD2 has a nearly indistinguishable resumé from the Geese, but after losing in the final week of the season, they have now lost 5 of 6 after a scintillating start to the year. The bottom three contenders are also very close to each other, but another slight step down from the 4-5 tier. The Schmuckernators have the lowest point total to make the playoffs, but with a 6 seed and a stronger finish are also probably the most dangerous. The Stars continue to be up and down in their title defense…but just two weeks ago they put up the league’s highest single week score of the season. And the Sacks have stumbled a bit down the stretch, losing 4 of 6…but with their playoff berth on the line in Week 13, put in their best score of the season in a dominant showing.

Four Out:

Bacon and Z both finished the season well, but after poor starts, ultimately just had too much ground to make up to squeeze into the playoffs. The Minions and Cactus had promising starts that proved to be mirages, as neither could sustain success over the long season. Maybe next year!
