Week 3 Power Rankings

This past week was mostly a bunch of blowouts decided early, but there was a fabulous back and forth battle between the Pwners and the BID Sunday night. The 800-pound gorilla pulled it out, but the upstart underdogs reminded us that even the best can be taken down on any given week. Now, the bye weeks begin and we begin to see which teams have the deepest benches and planned ahead the best. Should be interesting!

1. The Home Pwners (Record 2-0, Standings: 1, Previous Week PR: 1)
Great win. Took a late, garbage-time TD to hang on to a tough fought victory and avoid the upset. There’s enough talent on this roster for the bench to take out any of the winless bottom feeders in this league most weeks.

2. The Dngrs Dngrs (Record 3-0, Standings: 2, Previous Week PR: 4)
Marched to an easy victory, and got the high score of the week to boot. This team is well-rounded in that when one starter doesn’t perform up to potential, another seems to step up to carry the load. They’ve still got issues, but right now they are winning both the close games and the easy matchups, which is the right recipe to keep moving up the standings and up the rankings.

3. Cool Hand (Record 3-0, Standings: 3, Previous Week PR: 2)
Sub-standard effort, but a trio of huge performances was enough to carry this team. If LT is really starting to turn things on it will be very welcome for these guys, who are now starting to get bit by the injury bug.

4. Brett’s Benzos BID (Record 1-2, Standings: 7, Previous Week PR: 5)
Courageous performance and probably should have stolen the win. Their record is poor, but they’ve had the second hardest schedule in the league so far (after the Minions). Thus, they keep moving up these rankings despite the loss.

5. The Schmuckernators (Record 2-1, Standings: 5, Previous Week PR: 3)
They got a pass for last week’s sub-par performance, but two weeks in a row is worrisome. That was tremendously bad for a team that could and probably should be contending for a top 3 spot. Stealing a win this next week, though, would right the ship.

6. Blind Squirrels (Record 2-1, Standings: 4, Previous Week PR: 7)
A decent victory, if somewhat uninspired. At least they are taking care of business against the bottom of the league, which helps them move up a notch in these rankings. If they can navigate the next month above .500, it will be time to take them seriously.

7. Cupcakes of Doom! (Record 1-2, Standings: 8, Previous Week PR: 6)
The picked a bad week for this team’s stars to run up against a good defense (and get injured). They really laid an egg here and the prognosis goes as the health of those two fragile veterans.

8. Fat Cats (Record 1-2, Standings: 9, Previous Week PR: 8)
Finally manage to snag a win. It wasn’t the prettiest victory, but it will do. I mean, who predicts that O’Sullivan will solidly outperform Manning? Now, is this the sign of greater things, or will they slip up again next week?

9. Incomprehensibles (Record 2-1, Standings: 6, Previous Week PR: 9)
Look at that! A two-game win streak, and they even left a good chunk of points on the bench! On paper, this team doesn’t blow you away, but they’ve strung together a couple of nice weeks. Now the schedule turns serious though, so we’ll see if they can hang with the big boys.

10. Minions (Record 0-3, Standings: 10, Previous Week PR: 10)
The way Bush performs gives this team a bit of hope, but the horridness of the Browns keeps this team in their misery. After three weeks, you have to start wondering if they are ever going to start to click.

11. Inglorius Bat Turds (Record 0-3, Standings: 11, Previous Week PR: 11)
Too bad they left Ronnie Brown, Mr. 42 Point Scorer, sitting on the bench in favor of a 3rd string backup. That’s the kind of year it has been – one bad thing after another. It’s kind of like watching one of the professional Ohio- or Missouri- based teams.

12. Cactus. Look out! (Record: 0-3, Standings: 12, Previous Week PR: 12)
Still in the basement, although they started to show a few signs of life this past week. They finally get to play another winless team next week, so maybe they can pull out all the stops and eek out a win. Probably not, but who knows?
